Day 6: Half Moon Island
I wasn't able to post the past couple of days because after we left Half Moon Island, we quickly entered the Drake Passage and were without satellite connection for quite awhile.
Sadly, Half Moon Island was our last day (and last landing) in Antarctica. But oh what a spectacular day it was!
Half Moon Island is the home of some 6,000+ Chinstrap Penguins. Just like at our other stops, the 'babies' are teenages with teir soft gray feathers. There were also several Antarctic Fur Seals sunning themselves on the beach and playing together. Wait until you see the video I took!
Half Moon Island is located in the South Shetland Islands. It was only a few hours after we left that we moved into the Drake Passage for our return home and the waves immediately kicked up. So far, it's a lot bumpier than on the way down. I'm just hoping that this is the worst of it - especially seeing as we have another 30 hours or so before we pull back into port in Ushuaia.
Someone commented about wanting to see more penguin pictures - I have hundreds! It's a bit hard to get them uploaded from the ship though. But I will upload a few more pics tomorrow from the landing yesterday at Paradise Harbour and some from today of the Chinstrap Penguins and Antarctic Fur Seals.
